Today is Malaysia Day. It is the very first time in for this day to be declared as a public holiday in Peninsula Malaysia for the past 46 years. However, i am in Taiwan, so no holiday for me...
My wish for Malaysia: looking for a change in Malaysia!
The typhoon Fanapi is approaching, hopefully it would not ruin the weekend. Hence my wish is please come on Monday.

來臺灣昨天剛滿四年
在馬來西亞也生活了26年多
每次回去, 都會讓我感嘆祖國的偉大
天然資源 高速公路 高樓大廈 美麗風景 還有殖民時期留下來的遺跡
馬來亞獨立了53年 馬來西亞成立了47年
從葡萄牙荷蘭英國日本再回到英國
不同地方的移民 中國印度葡萄牙
還有本土的原住民
造就了多元種族的生活環境 宗教信仰 文化氣息 南洋美食
每次看到很多關於祖國的新聞
有些是令人鼓舞的, 可是也有不少會讓我憤怒失望
不公平的對待, 讓我們更加努力向上
多元的社會, 讓我們學會了很多技能
面對不同的人, 讓我們適應能力更強
政治的亂象、貪污和腐敗, 讓我們有進步的空間成偉真正的民主國家
種族與宗教的課題, 一直是馬來西亞政治的包袱
許多制度的不透明, 一直是馬來西亞社會的無奈
改變所帶來的公平, 一直是馬來西亞人民的希望!
雖然我不滿意現在的政府
可是政府提供了13年免費的國民義務教育
提供貸學金完成了大學學位
很幸運的拿到獎學金完成了碩士學位
提供幾乎免費的醫療設施, 雖然服務品質有所保留
扣除薪資作為公積金, 讓日後退休生活可以無虞 (通膨的上揚讓很多人幾年內就花光了)
中立、不结盟的外交政策, 讓我們去很多國家都不必辦簽證 (如果你有時間金錢換有世界)
提供各種民生用品的津貼, 來減輕市民生活負擔 (薪資從來沒有上漲, 很多人錢不夠用)
馬來西亞訓練了很多人才送到世界各地 , 自己不留
我不知道我以後的命運會是什麼
也許有一天我可以為妳付出些什麼
充實自己, 把本分做好一定會有回饋貢獻的一天!
至少, 我會跟大家說, 我是馬來西亞人!

We had a dinner at Grand Hyatt Taipei and shared a lot of informations regarding our old classmates. Those past memories we shared together were so precious and memorable!

Time flies and I have been living in Taiwan for 4 years. Since Chinese Language (Mandarin) is widely used in Taipei as the medium of daily communication, my Chinese proficiency has improved a lot compared to 4 years ago. I can speak fluently without mixing with other languages or dialects and with proper sentence structure. In the begining, i found that people here speaks differently from us, albeit the usage of Traditional Chinese characters versus Simplified Chinese characters and different accents, the pronunciation or tones over some Chinese characters are a bit different from what i learnt in my home country.
Let me summarise some of the major differences on the pronunciation below:
在台灣生活了一段時間，轉眼已經快進入第五年了。由於在這裡的衣食住行都離不開中文，所以我的中文進步了，現在的我跟當初的我比起來，的確是改變很多。應該說講話比以前流利了，可以完整以中文來表達，不需要加入其它語言或方言了，且會開始注意句子結構。
剛開始，會覺得臺灣人說的中文或華語,怎麼有點不一樣... 這不是繁體字與簡體字的差異或者口音的問題，而是有些字的發音，跟以前老師教的不一樣...
以下讓我來舉例一些最常遇到的差異:
角 角色 → 我們念"絕"，不念"腳"，角度如三角形等，則念"腳"
和 我和你 → 這裡念我"汗"你, 而我們是念我"河"你
亞 馬來西亞 東南亞 亞洲 → 這裡是念"雅"，我們念"訝"
微 微笑、微小、微波爐 → 這裡念"唯"，我們是念"威"
艘 一艘船 → 這裡是念"騷"，我們念"收"
淑 淑女 → 這裡是念"贖"，我們念"書"
廈 高樓大廈 → 這裡念"夏"，我們念"煞"
攜 攜帶 → 這裡是念"西"，我們則念"協"
企 企業、企鵝、企圖 → 這裡人念"器"，我們念"起"
錫 錫米 → 這裡是念"席"，我們則念"西"
什 什麼 → 這裡是念"蛇"，我們則念"神"
法 法國 → 這裡是念第四聲，我們念第二聲，方法的"法"皆念第二聲
酪 乳酪 → "lao"(ㄌㄠ)跟"luo"(ㄉㄨㄛ), 皆念第四聲
垃圾 → "勒色"跟"拉雞"
Well, that's all i can recall so far.
嗯，目前只想到這麼多。
Living in Malaysia, besides mastering the major three languages, sometimes we need to communicate with Chinese dialects such as Hokkien, Cantonese, Teochew, Hakka, Fuchou, Hainan and etc (I am not that great to know all of them..., normally simple Mandarin, Cantonese or Hokkein is sufficient), hence most of the speeches of Chinese descendants in Malaysia are mixed with various dialects and languages for effective communication and expression, and all of us are used to that. We watch a lot of TV programmes from Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan everyday exposing to different types of languages among the regions, so we might mix-up with the pronunciation of some Chinese characters as they are different from what we known and used daily. However, we might be pronouncing these characters wrong all the way since we were young. To be frank, i learnt a lot of new Chinese characters through watching the drama series from Hong Kong, so sometimes i only know how to read the characters in Cantonese instead of Mandarin... Ops...
To make a long story short, so if you ever got the chance to visit Taiwan of Mainland China and the local peoples there could not understand what you said or correct your pronunciation over certain characters, try not to deny yourself at the beginning, this could be due to the differences across the straits and there is no right or wrong. My suggestion is, when in Rome, do as the Romans do!
Next time i will talk about different names given on the same object.
在馬來西亞生活，除了要掌握三種語言，說話時也許還需要加入一些華人的方言，如福建、廣東、潮州、客家、福州和海南等（我沒那麼厲害全部都會啦..，一般上用華語，廣東話或福建話就可以溝通了）來強化溝通和表達，所以造成大馬華裔說的中文像個大雜燴，雖然一句話當中可能會參插了一些來自不同語言或方言，不過大部分的人都聽得懂。在日常生活中，看很多中港臺的電視節目和電影，對於不同的中文發音可能會感到混淆，好像跟日常生活所用的不一樣，不過，這當然也有可能我們自己從小到大都念錯某些字... 老實說，很多中文字詞的用法，我是看港劇學的，所以有時候知道廣東發音，卻不知道其中文的發音...哈哈!
長話短說吧～
所以，如果以後你們有機會去臺灣或中國，當地人聽不懂或糾正你的發音時，先別否定自己的中文程度，因為這只是兩岸的差異所造成的，並沒有對與錯。個人建議，入鄉隨俗就好!
下次再談談不同名詞的用法，就是相同的東西，名稱卻不一樣。

Finally, i back home for Chinese New Year for the very first time ever since i went to Taiwan. It's good to be home. We bought the Airasia ticket in July 2009. Hmmm.., the aircraft condition is quite nice...

Wrote Chinese caligraphy at the airport. This mean prosperous!
Having Nasi Lemak at Old Town White Coffee of LCCT Airport... It doesn't taste good compared to other branch... The drink is Xi Mut Milk Tea

Typhoon of the country 颱風變天

Have been trapped in the room along the weekend, due to the Sinlaka typhoon...
When will you leaving the island?? so powerful and yet not moving...
This makes me thinking that Malaysia is still the best place to stay, consider the heaven on earth. There have no typhoon, tornado, earthquake, tsunami or even volcano's. However, the political condition in the country is so disappointing...
整個周末一直被困在宿舍裡, 都是那個最牛的辛樂克颱風. 你什麼時候才要離開阿... 威力那麼強, 卻停留不走... 這讓我想到馬來西亞是地球上最好的地方, 算是人間天堂. 那裡沒有颱風, 龍捲風, 地震, 海嘯和火山. 遺憾的是, 政治環境還是那麼令人失望...
The government is using the Internal Security Act (ISA) to detain those innocent people, blaming them to be the racist people causing racial disharmony among the people... It is so unbelievable... ISA is only the tool left for the current administration party to stop those innocent people including bloggers, reporters, or even musicians from revealing the truth of administration style of the current party. Actually there are open secret, the government is acting like an ostrich. People now are not believing their propaganda or sloganised tactics anymore!
Claiming that is to protect the dignity of the people and religion, you are actually destroying instead. If not because of the unity among the races, how could we got independence from British colonisation 51 years ago? Never learn the national history... darn...
現在的國陣政府都利用內部安全法令(ISA)來把人抓去關, 就說他們會危害國家的安全, 會引起或煽動種族之間的衝突. 真是讓人笑話了... 如今內安令是現今政府僅有的工具, 來控制愛國的人民, 這也包括手無寸鐵的博客, 報導事實的新聞記者還有愛國的音樂家, 禁止他們把政府腐敗無能的真想透露給大家知道, 其實那些卻是公開的秘密, 政府簡直是鴕鳥心態, 掩耳盜鈴! 現在已經沒有人再相信你們那一套了, 說什麼要捍衛民族尊嚴等屁話, 你們才是真正破壞民族和諧的罪魁禍首. 如果不是民族的團結, 英國人會讓我們獨立嗎? 國家的歷史你們都忘光光了是嗎? 真是TMD...

It is indeed a shame for the whole country, as you can see how the media in Taiwan reported them, and we Malaysian in Taiwan are feeling shameful for all these. Darn again...
把那49位國會議員送到台灣來, 說什麼考察之旅, 還有豐厚的津貼咧... 送他們來這裡幹嘛?? 真是一大國恥, 你可以看看這裡台灣的媒體怎樣報導他們, 身在台灣的馬來西亞人都覺得很羞恥. 又TMD...
Now the most important thing is, Sinlaku please leave the island. I don't want to be holiday on Monday, my work is not progressing...
And not to forget, God bless Raja Petra Kamaruddin (RPK), Teresa Kok and others ISA detainees, hope all of them be released safely in whole piece.
目前最重要的是, 懇請辛樂克颱風大大快點離開啦. 不想明天有休颱風假, 我的實驗要有進度啦...
還有, 願上帝保佑拉惹柏特拉(RPK), 郭淑沁還有其他不幸被內安令關起來的英雄們, 早日平安釋放回家!

Today is the historical day for all Malaysian. We have another silver medal for Olympic Games.
Lee Chong Wei, you are the legend, our national hero!
Although you got silver, you are still World's No. 2 best badminton player. If you do your best and do not care about the consequences, the match will be very exciting! Who knows we might have our first ever Olympic gold medal.
Thank for getting us a silver medal, it's been long time we did not see our flag raising at Olympic Games victory ceremony.
Take a rest, and win us a gold medal!
Those "horse-back-bomb", do not blame him for anything, there is a loser in every competition.

原因：沙美维鲁只有中六的学历，国会大厦经过接近一亿的装修，还是经常漏水。
政府医院发霉，高速公路有裂痕，最要命的是签了那些不知所谓的大道合同，赔死我们。
更要命的是，他到现在还是工程部长！
在哪里可以看到超人般的部长 - 马来西亚
原因：我们的首相阿杜拉 - 回教系毕业，但是可以同时作为财政部长，国家安全部长及首相，还有时间在南马大水灾发生时去澳洲为自己弟弟的nasi kandar店开幕。
在哪里可以看到不卫生的卫生部长 - 马来西亚
原因：身为医生的卫生部长和卖花女开房，口交。
或许我们的卫生部长的老婆没有和黄燕燕副部长讨教，如何穿性感的睡衣，绑住卫生部长的心？
在哪里可以看到最成功的教育部长 - 马来西亚
原因：他的孩子都在澳洲读书。
在哪里可以看到最会演戏的贸工部长 - 马来西亚
原因：AP事件没完没了，拉姑流了一把鼻涕一把泪后，没事！
在哪里做议员最爽 - 马来西亚
原因：能够从火车闸看守员，做到巴生议员，再盖了一个千万皇宫，还请埋普罗大众一 起去他的house warming。

This is the second time i am celebrating Malaysian independence day in Taiwan... How do i feel? Nothing... Haha...! I love my country very much, my friends and family are residing in Malaysia, however some bad incidents and issues happened all the hwile making me not happy about the government. For after 50 years of independence, we are still a developing country, those unfair and not merit-based policies should be reviewed and changed. We should change and move according to global development intellectually and socially, especially in science and technology development. If not because of Malaysia, i would not be what am i today.
Frankly those yells or slogans doesn't mean anything, hanging national flags on buildings, houses and vehicles doesn't mean patriotism anyway!!! If we love our country, we should not yell or talk only, put it in action please.
We should love the people around us, help our friends, care for our family and do not bring down the country name by doing shameful or illegal activities. Study hard, doing good research with good publications, be responsible for your job and family, and obeying country rules and regulations are what we can do. Low criminal rates, peaceful country, good living environment and people with high morality are more realistic than anything else.
Actually every country is having their own problem, "you see me good i see you good", anyway those are my wish for my country...
Hope that all of us still remember what is our Rukun Negara 国家原则 (National Principles):

Finally i experienced the earthquake in Taipei...
It's been long time didn't update myself during my stay in Malaysia, here is it in brief... Basically i didn't go visiting here and there, just went around makan-makan and gathering with friends... Haha... Pictures will be updated later.
22nd July 2007 (Sunday)
Went to eat Gopeng lai fun (務邊賴粉) again as breakfast... Met with Desmond Lai along the way.., you are getting fat since quit scouting, haha...!
Took bus to Kuala Lumpur, had my lunch there. The roasted chicken rice at Petaling Street (茨場街) is very expensive, don't go there to eat unless no choice. It's going to rain, so just proceed to KLIA with KLIA transit.

Met with Chee How and Chuen Yi. We were chit-chatting at KLIA McDonald's before i checked in flying to Hong Kong and Taipei.

Went to watch "Flower Drum Song" Musical Show.

Wei Xiang played Uncle Chin in this charity musical show, he sang a beautiful song of "My Best Love" which was added to this production. I never expect that he can sing that well.., he was satisfied with his performance on that day..., sing and act in a musical show are not easy anyway... Well done and congratulations!

Met with Candy Lo, another white coffee at Menglembu...
Nice curry chicken cooked by my mother... We dipped it with white bread to finish the last drop. Having supper with Sze Tat and Wing Hong at hawker street near my primary school... mixed fruits ice (雜果雪) and fried big noodles (炒"大碌"面)...
We watched "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" at Ipoh Parade after that.

Lunch with Wing Hong. Guilinggao (龜苓膏) and dessert luohanguo with white fungus (雪耳羅漢果)...
Best soya bean milk (豆漿) at Funny Mountain.., didn't manage to eat the tau fu fah (豆花)... as i was too full at that moment...
Having supper with Kok Yew and Wen Ching at a hawker centre near Menglembu. We had lui cha (擂茶), clay pot chicken rice (瓦煲雞飯) and fried kuey teow (炒粿條).

Went to ASUS Service Centre to check my laptop.., graphic card problem.
Changed my maxis line from postpaid to prepaid.

Back to UM to get my luggage and went back Ipoh.
Finally the manuscript finished and ready to be reviewed.
Gathering with B2 classmates at Greentown Kopitiam... Phooi Leng, Kean Leong, Mee Ling and Poh Yee... we had nasi lemak (椰漿飯) and white coffee...

Redbox Karaoke in the afternoon with Chuen Yi, Catherine and Ethan. Why wear batik? No more clothes to change... :p

Having dinner with Mau Jack, Eng Kheong and Chin Wei at 928 Puchong. We had fried noodles (炒麵), satay (沙嗲/串燒) and chicken wings (燒雞翅膀).
Went to supper with William and Eddy at SS2 Wong Kok Char Chan Teng. Stay at William's place for a night.

Gathering with Biomedic coursemates. Cheong Yee, Seok Kooi and Poh Ling. We had our lunch at McDonald's near the cinema at Mid Valley Mega Mall.
Gathering with B2 classmates. Cheong Yee, Yein Jee, Poi See, Sook Wei, Wai Kwan, Tzer Ying and Ee Ping. We just drink water at Long John, yes, Mid Valley again...

Went to Serdang, got my new handset Nokia 3230 from Ray. We went to Sungai Long to have dinner together with Jeff, Hou Yee and Pui San.
Seri Pinang, gave the wedding gifts to Pike See and Win Cheong. Went to supper with Win Cheong and Felex.

Lunch with Ethan... roasted chicken rice (燒雞飯)...
Tea with Shing Yee at Low Yat Plaza, white coffee and prawn mee (蝦麵) at Kopitiam. We went to Sungei Wang and Time Squares later.
Went to La Queen with Jasmund, Joe, Ken and Vince... bad experience after opening my eyes...

Supper with Jasmund and Joe at Murni SS2, the wonder kitchen... so crowded and expensive, don't know why people like to go...

Went to KL. Having lunch with Jeffrey Wong, Chuen Yi, Catherine and Wei Wei at Mid Valley Kenny Rogers.
Money changers at Mid Valley offer best bargain.
Met Prof. Yasmin regarding the manuscript.
Went to have dinner with Sook Fun at SS2, we had curry mee (咖哩麵), roasted fish, fried lala (clamp) and dessert (mo mo cha cha)...
Stay at Edvin house at Section 17. Thank you very much for your accomodation.
