28th October 2006

After having lunch at Nankang, went to Wufenpu Shopping Area to meet Kae Shyang...
That shopping area sells lots of clothing materials...most of the stalls are selling ladies clothing and the price is really cheap! We walked for a while (they have walked for long before meeting me), then waited for his uncle to come...
Then his relative fetch us to Shenkeng, a place famous for stinky toufu.., we tasted many free titbits along the way... After that, they decided to go Keelung..., i went there last week with Chee Wai. We tried new stuffs this time, "ding bian zuo" in front of the temple (it's flour pieces made using wok with soup and meat) and pork leg mee suah, people said after eating can get rid of bad luck wo... Hey, quite expensive leh, tried to avoid the fat and skin part and only have the lean meat part, the soup was tasty, the mee suah was nice too... (Actually the texture is meehoon to us, they said is mee suah, but the mee suah of hor ah mee suah not the same pun, whatever la...) Hope bad luck really gets away... Hahaha...
Eating "ding bian cuo" in front of the temple with his uncle sitting in the middle.

I bought a bed sheet there (for autumn and winter), so cheap only NT250 come with a pillow after bargaining... Then they sent me back to hostel..., thank you!

Long lost friends

Wow, i found my long lost old friends!!!
Months ago, i was trying to search for some old friends through friendster, just tried to post some messages to them, so glad that Yee Yan replied me at once... Today, i finally received reply from Li Rhen (wasn't sure he is the right person initially as he doesn't put any picture on his profile), so surprise and excited..! We haven't meet each other since 1991!!!
Hahaha... So happy...

25th October 2006

Today woke up late, luckily still managed to attend the talk...
The talk is given by a Nobel Laureate in Chemistry 2003, Dr.Roderick MacKinnon, he is the one who study the potassium channel structure and how K+ goes through the channel... The talk is very interesting and it really helped to understand the topic as am going to sit for midterm exam next month...
Another talk right after it was Dr. Jyrki Heino from Turku, Finland...perhaps Kean Jin met him before... He works on intergrin related to viral entry to cells...
Need to read paper tonight for tomorrow seminar....
My seminar will be 2 weeks right after the exam.., still not yet prepare the power point, but luckily the paper i'm going to present is not that tough...

Oh ya.., Pank Jit Sin, your big day liao, how is your thesis writing..? all the best ya...

I was called by Jessica to join the meeting with visitors from UTAR... They would like to know the study and research environment in Academia Sinica and to interact with the PIs in IMB... Yee Fun (a 2nd year TIGP student from Malaysia) and i were in the meeting... Through our conversation, got to know that they are growing very fast, just a 4 year plus newly established private university, their rapid development in short period of time is being noticed and monitored by the ministry... They are eligible to apply for Science Grant from MOSTE, all the courses offered are acredated by LAN and having many international advisors for their development... All this really change my initial perception on UTAR... Well-done!! They even invite us to join them after graduation...

24th October 2006 - With Kae Shyang, Chee Wai and Ice

Kae Shyang and Ice arrived at Taipei yesterday after touring the southern and middle part of Taiwan... We met up at Ximending... They said there were a team (Astro) recording a clip for a "dum" Malaysian artist over there and asked me to go to have a look... When i looked at him, oh.., he is Lin Yu Zhong... Then they realised and we decided to take a photo with him... He is wearing a green and black checker-board shirt with a T-shirt, saying something "watching AEC music channel..." and we really laughed when he said something "Gong xi fa cai, be wealth like a pig, but don eat too much till look like a pig, Happy CNY, etc..." His make-up is really thick...

We went for desert and met with Chee Wai...
We then decided to go Taipei 101... So they went to the observation deck for night view..., Chee Wai and i just wandering around Taipei 101 and we had our dinner at New York New York food court...

It was a rainy day yesterday after a week without a drop of rain...

Actually i am very worried about the coming mid term exam... too many things need to study and yet still not well-prepared... The feeling is just like having STPM last time, so nervous and tension..., what had been learnt looked like nothing... :s It has been very long time didn't "study for exam" already... The worst thing is i should be doing well in the exam as i'm not joining any lab at the moment.., those MM group people are so motivated, they really form study group and having their discussion, and yet our MCB group never did that... Hopefully everything goes well...
popi popi ah...

Happy Deeparaya

Happy Diwali and Selamat Hari Raya!...and happy holiday of course...
Didn't went out today, Chee Wai have to attend wedding dinner with his aunt...
I need some rest...
Monday watch Guest Guest Guest in studio...
Tuesday went to National Palace Museum, so impressed with the artifact and antique collections and with the impressive architecture...
Wednesday to CKS Memorial Hall... The architecture of the building is very impressive relfecting the rich chinese culture, the whole view is very beautiful especially the plaza in front is flanked by National Theater Hall and National Concert Hall...
Thursday went Yang Ming Shan, frankly Kinabalu Park (one of the World Heritage) is much much more beautiful than YMS... Chinese Culture University campus rich in chinese culture architecture, it looked more like a high school seeing the students interacting around and having their activities...
Friday went to Ruifang and Keelung... Touched the largest gold in the world and visited an AV shop... It was the most "expensive and precious" I've ever seen and was surrounded by lots of AVs... Food is nice...
Being mountain hiking for Thursday and Friday.., don't know why suddenly went to the mountain area in two consecutive days...

Gold mine and Keelung

Went to Ruifang by railway... having lunch at the food court...
Inside the train...

Taken in front of Rui Fang Railway Station.

Then took bus to Jinguashi (via Jiufen) to visit the Gold Ecological Park...
Taken at the entrance of Jinguashi Gold Museum Area...

It was a gold mine many years ago during Japanese time.., now still can see many old buildings with typical Japanese architecture...
This is one of the display room...

Most of the places were not allowed to take pictures... Here is within the museum area...

This is the tunnel of old gold mine...

We see many real gold there, but no picture are allowed to take, just the largest gold bar is permitted... The largest gold bar in the world (in Guiness's Record), grade 999 weight 220kg!!! Wow!! I never touched something so precious before...
This is the largest gold bar in the world... 99.99% pure!!! 220kg!!!

The mine is located on mountain area, so we have some mountain tracking to see the remnants of mine pieces... View from the mountain is beautiful facing the Pacific Ocean...

There's a well-known Teapot Hill around there (it really looked like a teapot without the handle), people climb the hill from the other end and came to the gold mine museum side... We met them on the way and turned back realising the trail will lead us to nowhere...

We took bus to Keelung... a small town with lots of food stalls along the roadside...
Still playful...

Keelung City...

There are more variety of food comparing to Shilin night market... We saw a VCD/DVD shop just alllow people above 18 to enter, it sold AV, original copy with subtitle!!! We went in to have a look and most of it are Japanese, like those available on net to download, but i believe the picture quality would be better... :p

We walked around the night market and had our dinner there, it was nice...!

I bought a sport shoes. We went back by train afterwards... The money we spent on transportation today were comparable with what we spend on food...

Yang Ming Shan

Today the MCB class postponed, so i went out to meet Chee Wai after the morning seminar.
We went to Yang Ming Shan...
Touring with the bus, get down once a while to see the scenery aroung...

We went to Juzilin, Datun Natural Park for some jungle trackking, sulphur vapour then to Chinese Culture University...

This is the sulphur vapour at Xiaoyoukeng... Seeing us smiling in front of camera, actually it's very smelly ga...

Here is near the campus, so nice as food stalls and shops are all around...

We were having "cultural-shock" when visitting the university... There are many courses offerred but all the buildings around the campus are having traditional chinese architecture..! So the name might be because of the campus is having chinese culture instead of offering cultural courses...:)

In the library...

We then went to Miramar for the big wheel... We can see the whole taipei city when the wheel reached at the top...
