GSA meeting

We were having a dinner meeting for Taiwan International Graduate Programme (TIGP) - Graduate Student Association (GSA) to discuss and plan for the GSA activity for the whole year.
The attendees were Bernhard, Shobhit, Anle, me, Winny, and Caezar.
Arnab, Nagham and another Taiwanese guy, Chen were not attending.
Each of us is representing our own programme. I am representing Molecular and Cell Biology (MCB) Programme. Previous post.
今天有個聚餐，就是我們臺灣國際研究生學程(TIGP)研究生協會(GSA)的學生代表們要討論GSA的年度活動計畫。
參與的人有Bernhard,Shobhit, 安麗, 我, Winny還有Caezar.
Arnab, Nagham跟另外一個台灣的陳姓男生沒有出席...
咱每位都是各自學程的代表,我則是代表分子細胞生物學程。看舊文章。
Summary of what we've discussed:
以下是我們的討論結果：
1. Food trips
Five food trips were proposed, in which 3 of them will be after the Mandarin class for lunch and 2 of them will be held during dinner and one of them is during the weekend.
In November someday after the mid-term exams.
At least one trip for halal or vegetarian food.
Details will be planned after conducting the questionnaire survey targetting 1st and 2nd year international students.
一，膳食團
提議要五個團，其中三個是午餐，就是在中午上完中文課的時候，另外個就是晚餐，其中有一天是在週末的時段。理想時間就是在十一月期中考過後。其中至少要有一天是去回教徒清真食品級或者素食的餐廳用膳。詳細的規劃將會依照針對一、二年級的國際學生所分發的問卷結果再作決定。
2. Language and Culture Club
Survey through questionnaires will be done to know which foreign language they are interested to learn. Language learning will enhance cultural exchange leading to good relationship among the international and local students.
二，語言文化交流會
將會通過問卷統計有哪些外語是學生們有興趣學的，然後再作安排（外語班是由外國學生們親自傳授）。通過外語學習可以促進國際與本地學生們之間的文化交流進而培養學生們之間的情誼。
3. Mandarin class
We proposed to have an intensive/faster class for new and old foreign students. Current class are found to be less effective for them to acquire and applying a new language to the local environment. An intensive summer course (3 weeks)is proposed to be held during summer break.
Details can be planned after doing a survey with foreign students.
三，中文課
提議應該來個速成進階班，特別針對新舊的國際學生。目前的上課方式看起來成效很慢，學生們都很難學以致用。可以考慮在書家的時候開一班為期三個星期的速成進階班。
詳細的規劃也將會依照問卷的結果再作決定。
4. Parties:
GSA hand-over party in combination with Christmas, Winter Solstice or year-end party.
Proposed date: Friday, 19th of December 2008.
Organise an independent GSA party (with fun games and lucky draws)following the official one, of course financed by TIGP office.
Other parties: barbecue party in spring or perhaps a costume party. To be discussed later.
We can invite our friends from outside to join us.
四，聯歡會，趴
GSA交接儀式的聯歡會，可以與聖誕、冬至或者年終晚會同時進行。理想的時間是2008年12月19日。可以在正式的交接儀式結束後，繼續進行我們的GSA聯歡晚會，屆時會有遊戲以及抽獎之類的活動，當然經費要由TIGP學程辦公室提供啦...
其他的晚會，可以在特定節日舉辦一些燒烤活動或者一些服裝舞會。這些遲些再說。
當然我們可以要清自己外面的朋友來參與其盛啦...有誰要報名的？呵！
5. GSA:
One of the student from Philippines volunteered to help in producing an official GSA/TIGP video. We can put on the website and on YouTube or other video-sharing websites.
For the GSA office, TIGP dorm would be a better place than the T&A building.
五，GSA
一位來自菲律賓的同學自願幫我們拍攝製作一個GSA及臺灣國際研究生學程的宣傳錄影片。我們可以把它放在GSA的網頁，或者其他影音分享網站如YouTube等。
在臺灣國際研究生宿舍內設立GSA辦公室，總比在臺灣國際研究生行政教學大樓來得好。
6. Budget:
It would be good to have a regular budget for the GSA. We can plan our own activity and bring new life to the GSA. It helps in promoting GSA to the students and staffs in the campus.
六，預算
如果GSA擁有年度預算，這將會讓活動策劃方面方便許多。這也可以讓院內同仁得知GSA這個團體。
7. Reward & incentive for being a GSA representative:
Since we are very busy and occupied with our research and course work, hence this would most probably lead to an inactive or dead community. We (i mean the reps like us) are sacrificing our spare time to plan and organise activities for GSA. If there is an incentive to become GSA rep, more people will be encouraged and interested to be a rep, and there could be real elections in the future, at least not like me, representing through "nomination".
A good idea would be like giving financial support to active GSA reps to travel to conferences and advertise the TIGP there.
七，成為GSA學生代表的福利
由於我們研究生每天的時間都被實驗功課等實務佔滿了，所以GSA很有可能從此就會變得不活躍，彷彿一個冬眠的學生團體。我們（筆者是指想我們這一屆的學生代表）需要犧牲自己的寶貴時間去策劃活動（畢竟這是吃力不討好的任務），那倘若成為代表能夠有一些回饋或福利的話，這將會吸引更多的自願者來擔此重任，來屆或許可以有個選舉來選出各學程的代表。之少不會像我，是被＂提名＂的。
有個好的建議，可以贊助GSA代表差旅費到國內外的學術研討會，並同時宣傳臺灣國際研究生學程。很不錯喔！
