Today started the first seminar... it took for around 2 hours... Everyone is asking the questions, and you have to know the paper from inside out then only you can answer... Oh.., most of us lack the basic of neuronal science, so the question and answer session do help us to understand better eventhough we had read the paper the night before...
Happy Birthday to Chee Hoe..!

Went to visit Taipei City Museum today, it is an old western building and yet very beautiful..., but i don't have camera to snap some images for you all...
Entrance fee just NT20, but since i'm consider military student (belongs to National Defence University ma...), so only pay for NT10...
Did some ambroidery stamping on the introductory brochure..., many things can be seen... actually more or less like Malaysian museum, it just that their display are more attractive and everything are maintained very well... There's another art gallery showing on printing art and different dyeing approach on clothes...

Hehe..., actually the museum is within the 228 Peace Garden, next to Katagelan Boulevard where people "meditating" and yelling "Ah1 Bian3 Xia4 Tai2!"... The theme song of the activity is very nice, so pop style... i took a red ribbon printed depose signs and some slogans as "souvenirs"...

Wandering around XiMen area after that...

Oh ya, happy birthday to Dr. Ooi Aik Seng... Hahaha...

After listening to a morning talk on splicing effects on disease and how they come out with treatment, a bedside-bench-bedside translational research, i just feel that i know nothing..., the more i stay here, the more i feel i don't know anything... Hopefully this would be the reasons for me to stay, get motivated and equiped well during my stay in Taiwan...
You will eventually keep motivating and developing your passions on science as you stay longer, as there are talks and seminars around the academia...

Today lecture really...Oh, really not interested in protein structuring..., yet it is the fundamental for all the biochemical mechanisms and interactions.., is essential for us to know... The lecturer is really good in his field, he knows everything...

This afternoon went for Applied Biosystem Seminar on Real Time PCR... Refreshed my knowledge on Real Time PCR, and get to know the latest application in this field as well... Yes you are right, got food again... hahaha...

Tonight went to Activity Centre to watch "A Night of Acrobatics" "特技之夜" performed by Acrobatics Company of the National taiwan College of Performing Arts... The performance are just spectacular, jaw-dropping and wonderful... We were worried of some of their dangerous stunts...
Their performance consisted of: Flag dance: synchronisation of waving flags and tumbling; Melody on the Hands: balls and rings dancing on the acrobat's hands; Rocking board: showing of their balance dexterity by performing series of acrobatic stsnts on a board above a log; Acrobatic clown shows: plates on stick bench; Show of hand-standing: display of hand standing skill; Happy Life: the funny whipping skill; Colourful Phoenix playing plates: plate dancing (since Han Dynasty) on hands of pretty acrobats; and finally Taiwan-My Motherland, My Love: Taiwan folk custom especially their native people living style showing contortion, fire dance, foot juggling, fire and blade circle, yo-yo and paradise of acrobatics... Sorry don't have camera to capture some images...
This was the second time i watch chinese acrobatic stunts live since 1989, the rest just watched on TV during CNY...

Typhoon might be coming tonight, but will just bring heavy rain to Taipei City... Just pity and worry about those people surrounding the Presidential House now... Today have another historical event, surrounding the city... They are holding candles and yelling slogan "A Bien3 Xia4 Tai2..." whilst walking surrounding the area... Ah Bien, how can you do nothing... Your face must be as thick as your stomach skin, no wonder the bullet can't kill you few years ago..!!!

Taiwan people really demonstrating what is democracy to the world, if this kind of incident happens in Malaysia, before the first one ever try to sit in front of the Prime Minister House, he or she will be straightaway be caught under ISA...
Even though some of us would said they are insane or crazy or not having stable political environment and what or what, but look at the good side, people in Taiwan are actually free to speakout their mind, they are the one who can determine who rule their country.., and yet they live in peace and harmony..!!! If our country can be half of their status by year 2020, then only we can claimed ourselves as "First World" country citizen..., if not facilities world-class but people mindset still pariah or low class..., Wawasan 2020 will never be realised unless miracle happens...

First MCB lacture

Today is the first Molecular Cell Biology Lecture... 3 hours... (*_*) ...on Cell and Chemical Foundations... Most of the facts were already known, i have to ask back from my Form 6 Chemistry and Biology teacher... Oh oh...

Got our own locker, so no need to carry all the stuffs wandering or loitering around... Its same as the one available in Carrefour, can reset the password everytime... The password is ****, so don't ever try to open it... "p

Because of one of her research interests is molecular farming, today went to see Dr. Yu Su-May. She is very nice to talk to..., she gave me some of her papers (reprinted copy of good journal le...) to read in order have an idea what is her team doing in IMB, may be can consider for a lab rotation later... Yet still struggling as more interested in doing virology and immunology...

12th September 2006

Dao bian has become more and more fanatic.., the make use of any opportunity in their daily life to show their will...incorporating similar things in computer games, wearing shirts with slogans, and even used Ah Bien photo as their dart target... :s
By the way, since Taiwan National is around the corner (10th October) and KetagelanRoad will going to be closed from 26th September to 12th October 2006 for National Day preparation..., so no more protesting or "medidating" activities are allowed to hold there anymore, but then we still wondering will their president be deposed by then...?? oh oh..

Weather here starting change... day time not as hot as before..., night time quite windy...
May be it due to the rainy days lately... Or perhaps autumn is around the corner...

Today went for Invitrogen "Technology Specialist Week in Taiwan" Seminar at IMB... They have quite a lot of creative new products, i was impressed by the 3D cell culture system, iBlot Dry Blotting System (hey, ask boss to buy so that no need to come very early just to do the western blot ma...), and their recent advancement in RNAi technologies..., lots of updates, free ebooks and molecular tools available on their site too...

Today is a memorable day for people in Taiwan..."dao bian day"
I was wandering around the Presidential House this afternoon..., so many people was gather there..., they are wearing T-shirt, cap, scarf, and hand straps with slogans...all in red... They even go for petition and yelling some creative slogans.., xiao...
It was very crowded...full of publics, medias, and policemen... Actually i didn't know the exact place, just get "attracted" to the noice and there were big cargo van of media parking there..., those workers were having their lunch, talking around, and they looked very professional... Some ah pek even change their clothes to red T-shirt on the sport, and then yelling "ah bien xia4 tai2!!" There are stalls for meal, drink, and souvenier...

Finally i tried McDonald's in Taiwan, they have some menus which are not available in Malaysia, so i choose that one and tried... Crispy Chicken Fillet Rice Burger, it's like Chicken McDeluxe but the bread is made of brown rice.., all customers are required to clean their place and throw the rubbish accordingly, recycled stuffs, non-recycle stuffs, and food waste...

Today is another rainy day... (-.-)

Today, we got our National Defence Medical Centre ID card, the card not nice, just like our MyKad...

We went to do the course enrollment at NDMC, it's actually course registration like what we did for UPM SMP... (-.-) The NDMC ID card enables us to access to anywhere in NDMC... We were lost because the whole building is like a maze.., i counld imagine why Yu-Hsin and Hsin-Huei can remember the route.., so we just follow them blindly... Hahaha... We went to the library to register, so we now can borrow books from NDU library. With the ID card, we will enjoy 10% to 15% off when purchasing any goods from any shop in the hospital... "p

Today is a rainy day...

City Tour to Danshui, Bali and Shilin

Today after the course introduction session, we went to Danshui (northern Taiwan) with our classmates together with Cheng-Hsun and Jessica. We went there by MRT. I bought an Easy Card and the whole journey took about an hour. Danshui is located at the seaside. We tried the famous food in Danshui, which is A-Gei (beancurd skin with fish meat and "transparent" noodle), fish ball (inner with meat), sour plum drink, and iron egg (egg marinated with soy sause). We then traveled on boat to Bali and sat in a coffee shop at Left Bank (Zuo-an) for tea break. We played "BB shooting" before leaving Bali, a very good experience!
We took some photos too...! =)

After that, Jessica, Mungee (our Mongolian classmate) and i went to Shilin night market. The rest were not following, unfortunately Weng Wah was not able to join us... There were lots of goods selling at the market, and lots of tempting delicious food too...
It was tiring the whole day, but we enjoy very much! Thanks yaa...

Tomorrow we need to go to National Defence Medical Centre for course registration...

Orientation Day

Today just get to know another two new Malaysian student from another programme, and also some TIGP seniors from Malaysia. This is the orientation and the welcome party at Activity Centre.

We took group photo after that...

All the new foreign students like us went for field trip after orientation, in-campus and off-campus... We went to another Carrefour at Nankang, a bit smaller compared to the Xizhi one... Public transport is very convenient around Nankang and near Academia Sinica, bus-stop is just in front of the instution and many bus are on the route to the MRT station...
Night time went out to meet up with Weng Wah for dinner near Kunyang MRT Station... Ha, we didn't meet in Malaysia but end up to meet in Taipei instead..."p Tomorrow he said wanna go Shilin night market, oh, a lot of food there... Hahaha...

First weekend at Taipei

Today went to Taipei city centre with LRT after having lunch at Activities Centre.
Haha.., the announcements were made in mandarin, hokkien, hakka and english telling the people the next destination, funny when listening to the computerised announcement...
The bus system there is very organised, they have notice to tell you what is the next station, so you will never miss unless fall asleep...
Spend a few hours at Sogo and the underground market nearby... Lots of things to see...
May be should go to the gymnasium at Academia Sinica tomorrow...
For those who wants my contact, please email me.., thanks! =)
Have a nice weekend! "p

Registration day

Today, is the registration day. Lots of forms to be filled... (-.-)
Interacting with institute members during luncheon.., fun and interesting, most of them were surprise knowing that a Malaysian can listen and speak in Mandarin... :s
We were introducing ourselves, and everyone was listening...

We went by bus to National Defence University for registration. May be some of you are right, NDU is military based, most of the people there are wearing military uniform. The building is very huge and beautiful. There's a National Defence Medical Centre next to it, so most of the research in NDU and NDMC are related to medical sciences... Just get to know that students of NDU (like us) can enjoy special student rate for treatment including shopping within the shop in the hospital... Wow! The hospital is one of the best one in Taipei.
Once we got student pass, we can use it for everything... hahaha...
Orientation week starts next week...

Oh ya, Happy Birthday to Francis..! Wish you best of luck in your future attempts.
